Dan Why is there no rest for the wicked?

Jake I thought it was no rest for the weary?

Dan Well them too.

Jake Then who gets to rest?

Happy Dan The non-wicked and wide-awake?

Jake That really doesn’t seem fair.

Dan Who said anything about fair?

Jake Me, just now, I think.

Happy Dan I mean outside of you, just now.

Happy Jake Oh, no one, I guess.

Dan All right then.

Jake I still don’t like it. I mean if the weary are, well, weary why shouldn’t they get to rest?

Dan Because there’s always more to do. That’s the point. The weary never rest because there’s always more to do.

Jake And the wicked get to rest because they’re insomniacs?

Happy Dan Possibly. But also, you know, being wicked, they’re always scheming. Which leads to not time to rest.

Jake That’s just ridiculous. I’ve known plenty of wicked people who schemed a lot, and they all got a good night’s sleep in.

Dan Maybe the saying was started by someone wicked to make other people think it was far more work than it is.

Happy Jake That would be wicked.

Happy Dan It would be wicked, in fact. Which makes me think it could even be true.

Jake Truth and wickedness. Interesting.

Dan Oh the truth is often wicked.

Jake So does the truth get to rest?

Dan There’s a lawyer joke in here somewhere.

Happy Jake When isn’t there?

Happy Dan Fair point.

Jake Actually don’t they often ask for a court to rest?

Dan Recess, not rest.

Happy Jake No recess for the weary!

Happy Dan If you’re tired you can’t go in the yard and play Marco Polo!

Jake That’ll learn ‘em.
