Dan So the circus was cool.

Mark You went to the circus?

Dan Yeah, last night, I thought I mentioned.

Mark Uhm, no. Also, what circus is even in town?

Dan Oh, well it wasn’t like Ringling Brothers or the Big Apple or anything.

Mark Cirque?

Happy Dan Nope!

Mark All right, what circus am I missing?

Dan It was an in art space out in Brooklyn.

Mark You went to an art-house circus. In Brooklyn.

Dan Yeah, ended up pretty cool.

Mark What kind of acts did they have?

Dan Well they couldn’t really have animals, no lions or anything.

Happy Mark Uh-huh. Those spaces aren’t exactly huge.

Dan And it was on the third floor.

Happy Mark Up, Jumbo! Up! Yeah I can see the problem.

Dan So they had a trapeze guy…

Mark Wait, what?

Dan You know, guy swings on…

Mark I know what a trapeze is, but those ceilings are kind of low, aren’t they?

Dan Fourteen or fifteen feet, sure.

Happy Mark So how do you rig a trapeze in that space?

Dan Well, he swung really close to the floor.

Happy Mark I bet! Takes all of the risk out of it, too, doesn’t it? He falls and maybe, at most, skins his knee.

Dan Well I don’t watch circus acts for possible bodily harm

Mark Oh at some level you do. We all do. It’s like car races.

Happy Dan I don’t watch those either.

Happy Mark Neither do I! But you know that if you watch one, there is a part of you hoping for a big crash!

Dan Maybe some people.

Mark All of them! And when you don’t get it you might be a bit disappointed but also relieved, like you escaped something. Makes everything more thrilling.

Happy Dan Car races aren’t thrilling.

Mark Missing my point. I’m just saying the trapeze act couldn’t have been half as much fun as a normal one, due to the lack of any danger present.

Dan I guess.

Mark So what else did they have?

Dan Tightrope walking.

Happy Mark I give up.
