We’re getting too impatient.
We as in us, specifically, or…?
We as in society.
Explain. Explain right now! Now!
Seriously. Like with movies. Fine, I get that trailers are good…
I love trailers.
Me too, and they’re supposed to be ads for movies, to let you know if you want to see it, right?
Well, I guess. I like to think of them as short films later expanded upon.
Right! Now they have to tell us everything that happens, because we can’t wait.
Is that really why?
I think so. I mean now even trailers aren’t early enough. We need teasers, too.
And then multiple trailers!
Yeah. And then people videotape them and leak them online to make them show up even earlier.
But getting excited about a movie is important.
To the studio.
Well, sure, but they have to make money to make more movies.
I get that, but even with that going on, it’s like why should I get excited about a film a year from now, when you also want me to be excited about the film out this second?
Mmm.
How many things should I be excited about at once? Everything?
That could be fun.
Exhausting.
But fun!
I remember when I was a kid, you might hear about a movie early but that was it. You heard about it. It was happening.
You still do.
Now you hear two years in advance, ands then we need to see images from the set, and then teasers and trailers and spoilers…
But it’s fun.
It’s too much. We used to be patient.
No, we weren’t, we just didn’t have a choice in the matter. Now we do, and we’re not.
You think?
We’ve never been patient. News always has to move faster, information needs to go quicker, it’s really only our ability catching up with the fact we can’t wait for anything.
Wouldn’t we be better served by learning patience then?
Sure, we’d also be better served by growing gills. Not gonna happen, Mark.
I want gills.
I want wings!
You didn’t mention wings before. Can I have wings instead of gills?
See, impatient! You want it all. Right now.
I guess. I still want wings instead of gills if I have a choice.
You don’t. You can’t have either.
Suck.

Actually,I’d prefer gills to wings, but then again, I’m afraid of heights :P

I second gills. They’d be much more useful. Wings would require extensive modification of the whole skeleton, as well as vastly altered musculature to work. Gills on an otherwise unaltered human body might not let you stay underwater indefinitely, but would certainly give you a few minutes at least.
