Anyways, I think books and magazines already switched a long time ago. SF magazines used to be full of short stories, but are now filled more and more with perspectives on the social aspect the stories play or other reflections. Now, SF books are the ones made an issue a week, instead of the novels and compendiums from earlier authors. If that example doesn't work, how about a more classic example? The Count of Monte Cristo was released chapter by chapter to the public during its time, showing a much more magazine or TV-like serialization than we would consider of books.
