I was watching Mork and Mindy last night…
On TV?
Yes, some channel had it on, I was flipping, marathon.
Oh, all right, for a second I was worried you had bought it on DVD.
And what if I had?
I don’t know, it’s just one of those shows that doesn’t quite live up to what we remember it as. And they sell us these box sets and we watch them and they suck. some worse than others, like who really wants to watch every episode of the Jeffersons, in order?
Someone must.
Someone must, but I have never met them. Or Leave It To Beaver.
On DVD?
On DVD. You can buy it and watch it all in order, so the continuity of when Whitey does crack is preserved.
Well yes, that is all fairly odd. But no this was simply on TV.
Right. So you were watching Mork and Mindy.
And Mindy, I feel that this whole idea was supposed to be something else.
What do you mean?
Of course it works perfectly well as a sitcom, but take the premise by itself. Alien that looks like us lands on Earth and lives with beautiful woman to learn our ways.
So you’re trying to say that Mork and Mindy was a failed porn pitch?
Perhaps. Perhaps it was for a movie.
Wasn’t it a movie? David Bowie? The Man Who Fell To Earth?
Oh, yes, that is Morkish. But I think that the Bowie film came first.
So perhaps Mork was a take off of that, except funny?
Yes. What if we do the David Bowie film with a hairy funny man instead.
A good idea. It caught on.
It truly did. That was a very popular show.
Popular enough for people to think that, though Mork came to Earth with only his jumpsuit, his ugly clothing was somehow alien. Even though he had to go to Goodwill to buy it.
Which speaks of other aliens on Earth!
Fashion designer aliens!
Designing Women?
They were Southern, not alien.
Close to the same.
Fair.
